The Professional Certificate (ProCert) in Music Production is a groundbreaking step forward in online music education. COURSE CONTENT
This course is a fully immersive learning experience. You will engage in interactive activities which will equip you with all the skills required to create your own music mix.
The 8-week Online Short Course in Vocal Production is delivered in three 2-week blocks consisting of recorded content, interactive learning, instructor-guided discussion forums, and supplementary resources, with each block culminating in a 2-hour webinar with Warren Huart himself.
The fourth and final 2-week block will focus on your own production project, and you will get personalised feedback from BIMM University tutors, all of whom are current music producers.
Upon completing this course, you will receive a verified Certificate of Completion from BIMM University. Additionally, you will retain access to course materials for 90 days after the course concludes.
INDUCTION (Week 0)

RECORDING GREAT VOCALS (Weeks 1-2)
You will learn about the selection and application of recording equipment, the effect of the vocalist’s environment on their ability to give you their best performance, and the importance of acoustics and mic placement. Topics include:
- Understanding your vocalist
- Equipment: interface, microphones and application for mics
- Environment: room acoustics, proximity effect, environment for a singer, psychology of singers
EDITING, TUNING AND MIXING TECHNIQUES (Weeks 3-4)
You will learn how to comp, edit and tune vocals and use powerful mixing techniques to make the best choices for your productions. Topics include:
- Comping the takes
- Editing
- Tuning
- Mixing: equalisation, compression and saturation
MIXING AND CREATIVE PROCESSING (Weeks 5-6)
You will learn how to enhance vocal production using effects such as modulation, reverb and delay, and how to place vocal layers into a mix using appropriate techniques, making the right decisions for your own production. Topics include:
- Effects: modulation, reverb, delay
- Mixing vocal layers
- Creative effects
- Finalising a mix
ASSESSMENT (Weeks 7-8)
Part one: You will be given a choice, to mix your own project or use a provided multitrack, you will need to create a mix using the techniques that you have learned on the course.
Part two: You will participate in a 20-minute 1-1 feedback session on your track with a BIMM University tutor, who is also a current industry professional.

The Online Short Course in Vocal Production will provide invaluable insights and hands-on experience, setting the foundation for further exploration within the ProCert in Music Production.
When you choose to progress, you will have the option to study more courses flexibly or take the full ProCert. There will be four more 8-week online courses. These include Drum and Percussion Production, Instrument Production, Synthesis, Programming and Sampling. The fifth course is the Pro Cert Final Project which will help you mix and master your tracks and gain an insight into the inner workings of the music business and where you can fit into it. You will also receive 1:1 feedback and mentoring from BIMM tutors and other top industry professionals.
After successfully completing the full ProCert, you will have acquired all the skills necessary to operate effectively in the recording industry and be able to evidence this with a prestigious Professional Certificate from BIMM University.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Who is this course for?
Tailored for a broad audience, including novices in audio production, seasoned engineers, songwriters, vocalists, and producers, this course provides a comprehensive exploration to enhance your understanding and proficiency in vocal production.
Can I study the BIMM ProCert from anywhere in the world?
Yes! You absolutely can, the course is entirely online with materials for you to access any time. Live sessions are timetabled for waking hours and different time zones, so you should be able to attend the live webinars. However if you can’t they will be recorded and watchable after.
Why is this course different?
This course is the marriage of two worlds, university-style learning and professional real-world knowledge. You will learn from experts and also get feedback on your own projects.
How much work will be required each week?
The course is designed for you to study in your own time to suit your schedule. There are three live sessions but attendance will not be compulsory. In total, it is estimated that you will need between 6-10 hours each week to work flexibly through the materials, interactive activities and discussion forums.
What equipment do I need to take the Vocal Production course?
All you need to take this course is a computer with a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and either speakers, headphones or studio monitors. However, to get the most out of the course it would be great for you to be able to record your own vocals, so an interface and a microphone would also be useful.
What do I have to do to pass?
You will be asked to create your own vocal mix and reflect on the editing choices you have made. In order to pass, you must demonstrate your knowledge of recording techniques, ability to process and mix vocals and show creativity in vocal arrangement and production. This can be through the implementation of techniques in your tracks and/or in your reflective account of your process.
Is this a higher education qualification?
No. BIMM Pro offers non-credit-bearing short courses. Upon successfully completing one of our individual short courses you will receive a Certificate of Completion from BIMM University. If you opt to study all modules you will receive a Professional Certificate from BIMM University.
When will the course be running?
The course will be an 8-week online course starting 17th June 2024 and finishing by 9th August 2024.
What Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) should I use for the course?
Warren’s DAW of choice is Pro Tools, however this doesn’t stop you using any DAW you wish, the skills learned are transferable.
